Simple Sites

I know that my blog site, by comparison to a lot of crafter's web sites out there, is very simple and sparse.

This is deliberate.

I believe that the average modern website these days is just a wealth of distractions, mainly implemented not because they are useful in themselves, but they are just possible to do.

Your attention can be hijacked easily. Moving banners, sudden pop-up requests for signing up for something a few seconds after arriving there, or pages that have any number of clickable links with little pictures all over the page, all grabbing at your eyeballs and adding to the attention load.

I just need a blog to let you know where I am, what's coming up, and what I'm doing. You shouldn't feel any anxiety when visiting it.  There are no ads, and no cookie banners. There's not much for you to do except read the post.

I instructed my technical department/photographer/person who knows how to blog/husband that I wanted a website, and he set about finding something simple for me.

Success for me isn't defined by how much value of goods I manage to shift. This is not my living, I just want people to be enjoying what I've made and to cover my expenses in making them.

I have written elsewhere about this not being an e-commerce site. It's not a catalogue from which you order products, because I don't want to be just making products. I want to make beautiful things, useful things, to experiment and create and enjoy doing it. I fear losing that enjoyment if I suddenly have to produce like a factory to fulfil an anonymous person's online shopping basket order.

But having said that, I don't see a problem with selling things from here if you want to get in touch with me directly. There are links to my email, or a contact form if you prefer that.

If you want to enquire about prices for anything you see here, I can deal with you directly for that.
